The Center For Wilderness Cryptid Studies conducts scientific expeditions, and in-person investigations of reported Bigfoot sightings, in and around the Nantahala National Forest.
The Nantahala National Forest, located in southwestern North Carolina, presents a compelling setting for Bigfoot research due to its rich biodiversity, rugged terrain, and sparse population. Encompassing more than a half-million acres, this region boasts dense forests, remote gorges, and untouched wilderness, providing an ideal habitat for an elusive creature.
The Nantahala National Forest has everything needed to sustain a cryptid such as Bigfoot. The Nantahala is the second wettest region in the country (after the Pacific Northwest), has an abundance of wildlife, is home to several areas of old-grown forests, and has mountains as high as 5,800 feet. Winding through the forest is the Appalachian Trail (AT). Some researchers have theorized that the AT could be an easy pathway for Bigfoot and have referred to it as a “Bigfoot Highway”.
With fewer visitors, our researchers have the opportunity to explore undisturbed areas, increasing the likelihood of encountering evidence or sightings. The mystique surrounding this ancient landscape lends an air of intrigue, making it a prime location for those passionate about unraveling the enigma of Bigfoot.
Researching Bigfoot encourages people to explore natural environments in pursuit of evidence or sightings. This quest fosters a deeper connection with nature, leading enthusiasts to remote forests, mountains, and wilderness areas where they may not have ventured otherwise. This can promote an appreciation for the outdoors and conservation efforts.
